Basketball Game Preview: Proviso East Pirates vs. Hinsdale South Hornets

The Proviso East Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Hinsdale South Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Proviso East is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Downers Grove South just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 52-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs.

Despite the loss, Proviso East saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nariyah Head went 8 for 16 on her way to 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Those 19 points gave Head a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Amyiah Dunbar, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Proviso East smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Hinsdale South had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They enjoyed a cozy 53-36 victory over Berwyn/Cicero Morton on Saturday. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 186th, while the Mustangs are ranked 504th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hinsdale South now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Proviso East, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

Proviso East ended up a good deal behind Hinsdale South in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, losing 52-34. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hinsdale South's Maeve Savage, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds.
