The Silver Creek Dragons will face off against the Columbus North Bull Dogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Silver Creek is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Silver Creek is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Floyd Central on Thursday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Highlanders. The Dragons haven't had much luck with the Highlanders recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Silver Creek got a good showing from Karmen McMillan, who tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, McMillan didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April.
On the hitting side, Kaitlyn Whitlock made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Lily Allen was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Columbus North had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They blew past the Panthers 8-1. The result was nothing new for the Bull Dogs, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Payton Morris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Lily Retz and Morgan Jarvis did most of the damage at the plate: Retz went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Jarvis went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most hits Jarvis has posted since back in April.
Silver Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 17-10. As for Columbus North, their victory bumped their record up to 13-10.
Columbus North's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Silver Creek has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. It's a different story for Columbus North, though, as they've only averaged .354. Will they be able to contain Silver Creek's hitters?
Silver Creek came up short against Columbus North in their previous matchup back in May of 2021, falling 5-1. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
