Baseball Recap: Coral Gables Gets the Win

While Coral Gables's win against Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Coral Gables Cavaliers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) Stallions on Thursday. The Cavaliers haven't had any issues with the Stallions recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Coral Gables got a great performance from Carlos Torres as he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Torres has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Jake Wolfson and Timothy Negron did most of the damage at the plate: Wolfson scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Negron scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Negron a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Alex Carmona, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Coral Gables picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 4-8-1. As for Somerset Academy (Silver Palms), they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coral Gables will face off against Tocoi Creek at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Somerset Academy (Silver Palms), they will challenge Ransom Everglades at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
