The Lanier County Bulldogs entered their tilt with the Irwin County Indians with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Lanier County strolled past Irwin County with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 58-40. Given Lanier County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Irwin County is ranked 511th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Indians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Javion Woodard, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals. Woodard has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Martin, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Lanier County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. As for Irwin County, they dropped their record down to 3-14 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Lanier County will be playing in front of their home fans against Clinch County at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Irwin County, they will head out on the road to challenge Cook at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cook focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Saturday.
