Basketball Recap: Dru Bullard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Hills over Crawford

If West Hills was riding high fresh off their 79-47 takedown of El Cajon Valley on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The contest between the West Hills Wolf Pack and the Crawford Colts didn't end well, with the West Hills Wolf Pack falling 69-55. While losing is never fun, the Wolf Pack can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 893rd, while the Colts are ranked 409th).

West Hills lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Dru Bullard, who posted 15 points. The dominant performance gave Bullard a new career-high in points. Tucker Masek also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Even though they lost, West Hills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Leading Crawford to victory were Trevon Blanks and Mickelson Laguerre. Blanks almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds, while Laguerre almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Laguerre has been hot, having also posted three or more steals the last six times he's played. Keontae Lewis was another key player, going 5 for 11 en route to 13 points and five rebounds.

West Hills' record now sits at 8-12. As for Crawford, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

West Hills didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-52 defeat against Valhalla on the 21st. Crawford has also already played their next contest (against Logan Memorial Education Campus), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
