Stratford is 0-8 against New Milford since May of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Red Devils will venture away from home to challenge the Green Wave at 4:15 p.m. Stratford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.5 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Stratford came up short against Bunnell and fell 6-3.
Morgan Letizia was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk).
At the plate, Carolyne Burlone was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, New Milford made easy work of New Fairfield on Thursday and carried off an 11-1 win. Considering the Green Wave have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Lydia Rocky made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6.3 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nea Plisko, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Ava Kopp also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
New Milford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Fairfield only posted a batting average of .080.
New Milford's record is now 5-2. As for Stratford, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Stratford has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460. However, it's not like New Milford struggles in that department as they've averaged .431. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Stratford might still be hurting after the 18-0 defeat they got from New Milford when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
