Elk Lake is 8-2 against Montrose since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Warriors will host the Meteors at 4:30 p.m. Elk Lake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Elk Lake is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Holy Redeemer just ended the team's nine-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Royals by a score of 3-2. The Warriors were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Royals' pitchers proved too tough.
Elk Lake saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alden Felker, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Montrose entered their tilt with Blue Ridge on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Raiders by a score of 6-1.
Christopher McGee and Hudson Aukema made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, McGee didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Aukema struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He is becoming a predictor of Montrose's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't). At the plate, McGee went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Aukema went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. McGee is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adam Sorensen, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. Lukas Cokely was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Montrose's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Elk Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 10-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Elk Lake has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Montrose struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Elk Lake skirted past Montrose 2-1 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Meteors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
