Ayden - Grifton has gone 8-2 against Farmville Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Ayden - Grifton Chargers are taking a road trip to face off against the Farmville Central Jaguars at 7:00 p.m.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Ayden - Grifton and Pamlico County meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. Ayden - Grifton fell 4-1 to Pamlico County.
Kenlie Guthrie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Ayden - Grifton saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shia Mitchell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That double was Mitchell's first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Farmville Central). They blew past North Johnston 12-3 on Wednesday. The victory was nothing new for the Jaguars as they're now sitting on four straight.
Corri Houston was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four RBI and one double. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI.
In other batting news, Paris Davis was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Claire Neely, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.
Farmville Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.
Farmville Central pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 6.8 runs. As for Ayden - Grifton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Ayden - Grifton suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Farmville Central in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Can Ayden - Grifton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
