The Desert Mountain Wolves lost against the Cactus Shadows Falcons back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Desert Mountain was outmatched by Cactus Shadows on the road and fell 76-11. While losing is never fun, Desert Mountain can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while Cactus Shadows is ranked 103rd).
Despite the loss, Desert Mountain saw an underclassman step up: Adyson Lundberg scored nine points.
Camryn Koester was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 14 steals for Cactus Shadows. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Schultz, who scored 19 points along with four steals.
Desert Mountain's defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-17. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.6 points per game. As for Cactus Shadows, their victory bumped their record up to 11-13.
Desert Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Horizon at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Horizon will be up against Desert Mountain's rather soft defense (which has allowed 56.88 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing. As for Cactus Shadows, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Chaparral at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Cactus Shadows focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday.
