Baseball Game Preview: Polytech Panthers vs. St. Andrew's Cardinals

Polytech is a perfect 3-0 against St. Andrew since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Cardinals at 2:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Polytech's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while St. Andrew's has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Polytech had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt McKean on Friday. The Panthers never let the Highlanders get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. Considering the Panthers have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Isaac Balcerak was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Balcerak was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elijiah Benton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. William Harvey was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, St. Andrew's suffered their closest loss since March 28th on Thursday. They fell just short of Tatnall by a score of 6-4.

Polytech has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for St. Andrew's, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Polytech beat St. Andrew's 6-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
