The Shelby County Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by Minor 77-28. While losing is never fun, Shelby County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 434th, while Minor is ranked 71st).
Leading Minor to victory were Carmelo Burroughs and Isaiah Mcclain. Burroughs scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five steals, while Mcclain scored 25 points along with eight steals. Burroughs continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Matthew Grice, who scored nine points along with six steals.
Shelby County has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Minor, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.
Shelby County will head out on the road to face off against Central of Clay County at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Central of Clay County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 271 points over their last four games. Minor won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Bessemer City at 1:00 p.m. on December 28th. Bessemer City is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
