The Ruston Bearcats will head out on the road to take on the Quitman Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ruston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Ruston is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since March 26, 2024 on Monday. They came up short against D'Arbonne Woods, falling 12-2. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Bearcats' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.
Morgan Foster made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Quitman put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Minden an 11-0 shutout.
Brenna Lamkin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Lamkin was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, Anna Leach was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-2. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Maggie Guyotte was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Quitman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in 11 consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Quitman's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Ruston, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Ruston hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Quitman struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Ruston might still be hurting after the 14-0 defeat they got from Quitman in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Ruston avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
