On Thursday, Van Vleck was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 33-28 to Iowa Colony. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Van Vleck has scored all season.
Van Vleck's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaila Wilson, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tia Fields, who scored seven points.
Iowa Colony's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aaliyah Rogers led the charge by scoring five points along with 19 rebounds and three steals. Those 19 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Kenadie Francis, who scored ten points.
Van Vleck's defeat dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Iowa Colony, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Van Vleck will take on Hempstead at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hempstead is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. As for Iowa Colony, they will be playing at home against La Marque at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. La Marque will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1318th, while Iowa Colony is ranked 368th).
