Baseball Recap: Lake Region Comes Up Short

Lake Region fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Fort Meade on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Fort Meade Miners by a score of 7-5. The Thunder just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Jehiel Gomez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances. Lake Region is 2-1 when Gomez posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dan Colon, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Lake Region's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Fort Meade, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-4.

Looking ahead, Lake Region will face off against Discovery at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Lake Region is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Fort Meade, they will take on Lakeland at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Lakeland will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Fort Meade surely won't give up without a fight.
