The Hartville Eagles will challenge the Mt. Vernon Mountaineers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Hartville gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. Everything went their way against Licking as they made off with a 16-4 win.
Saige Petty made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Petty was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI.
In other batting news, Maddie Brown was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Brielle Kline was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
Hartville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Licking only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon was able to grind out a solid victory over Plato on Friday, taking the game 17-12. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mountaineers.
Like Hartville, Mt. Vernon also got a great game from a two-way player: Emily Schubert. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Schubert was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Lisa Stewart and Elli Eddington did most of the damage at the plate: Stewart went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Eddington went 3-for-5 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Adi Williams, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
