The Moriarty Pintos will take on the Espanola Valley Sundevils at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Moriarty is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.5 runs per game this season.
Moriarty fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Los Alamos on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hilltoppers by a score of 8-7. The Pintos haven't had much luck with the Hilltoppers recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Emma Rodriguez put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching eight innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Rodriguez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
Rodriguez wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Gallegos, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Another was Kristina Means, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, Espanola Valley came up short against Pojoaque Valley on Wednesday and fell 15-11. The Sundevils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Espanola Valley got a massive performance out of Aliya Rael-Lopez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Vigil, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple.
Espanola Valley's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Moriarty, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-6.
Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Moriarty has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .537. However, it's not like Espanola Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .606. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Moriarty's way against Espanola Valley in their previous matchup back in March, as Moriarty made off with a 9-1 victory. Do the Pintos have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sundevils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
