Basketball Recap: Airyana Maze Key Part of a Team Effort in Cougars Win

There's no place like home for Courtland, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They took down the Riverbend Bears 48-32 on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Bears last Tuesday, they had to take a 53-43 defeat.

Courtland got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Airyana Maze out in front who went 6 of 14 en route to 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Maze has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoie Hooks, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Riverbend lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Mikenzi Via, who posted five points and five blocks. Charlotte Mullinax was another key player, putting up ten points.

Courtland's record now sits at 2-3. As for Riverbend, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Courtland Cougars challenge the Mountain View Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Riverbend, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Culpeper County at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
