After a string of four wins, the Tift County Blue Devils's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell to Veterans 54-48. Tift County lost against Veterans in their previous head to head back in February of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 38-31 score last time.
Tift County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was TeShawn Bryant, who scored 11 points. Corey Howard was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Tift County were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Veterans only racked up four assists.
Veterans had a senior duo take command as Antonio ??tone?? scott dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds and Chandler Thomas scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. The game was ??tone?? scott's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tristen Abner, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds.
Tift County's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-5. As for Veterans, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tift County won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Thomas County Central at 4:30 p.m. on January 6th. Hopefully Thomas County Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday. Veterans won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Perry at 5:00 p.m. on January 6th. Perry is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
