South Pointe was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to first in Charter 4A. South Pointe defeated Westwind Prep Academy 22-18 earlier in the week.
South Pointe extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Warriors, 22-18. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Westwind Prep Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nick Galaviz threw for 226 and two touchdowns and Jesus Vargas had 162 yards receiving. On the ground Galaviz chipped in 67 yards. Adrian Pena helped Westwind Prep Academy's passing attack out by catching three balls for 42 yards.
The Warriors' Galaviz and Vargas have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Galaviz has thrown for 430 yards this season, while Vargas, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 17 catches for 266 yards. Quinn Garcia from Kingman Academy leads the league in rushing with 212 yards.
A big matchup in Charter 4A this week will be when the Tigers take on American Leadership Academy. Kingman Academy is currently in second, while American Leadership Academy is in fifth.
South Pointe and Westwind Prep Academy played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with South Pointe eventually emerging with a 22-18 victory.
