JACKSON, Miss. -
Callaway (Jackson, Miss.) extended its winning streak to nine games with a 49-10 victory over Ridgeland (Miss.) on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown catch by
Joshua Early in the second quarter, the Chargers were up 28-10 at the half.
Callaway expanded its lead to 39 points entering the fourth quarter. CHS scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Jabari Woodcox.
Callaway's standout player in the win was Woodcox. The junior halfback ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
Ridgeland's only touchdown came on a 38-yard run by Xavier Marion in the first quarter.
The Chargers came into the game allowing 10.1 points per game. Ridgeland's 10 points were well below their season average of 30.4 per game.
Callaway avenged last year's 31-20 loss to Ridgeland with the victory.
The loss comes after Ridgeland defeated Vicksburg 48-18 last week. The loss snapped Ridgeland's three-game winning streak.
Callaway (9-0) goes up against Canton in a 5A Region 2 game matchup next week, while Ridgeland (5-3) locks horns with Neshoba Central also in a 5A Region 2 game.
