Franklin hasn't had much luck against Socorro recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Franklin will be playing in front of their home fans against Socorro at 6:30 p.m. Franklin has given up an average of 10.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Franklin came up short against Eastwood on Friday, falling 19-9. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lola Vega made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in February. Layla Heredia was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Even though they lost, Franklin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. This was only their first loss (out of eight games) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Socorro). They were the clear victors by a 19-11 margin over Eastlake last Friday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 14 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Leilene Cardoza was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Mia Dominguez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Socorro's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Franklin, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13-1.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Franklin has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .470. However, it's not like Socorro struggles in that department as they've averaged .529. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Franklin might still be hurting after the 10-2 defeat they got from Socorro in their previous meeting back in February. Will Franklin have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
