The Alexandria Trojans will challenge the Iota Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Saturday, everything went Alexandria's way against North Vermilion as Alexandria made off with a 9-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.
Ella Melder made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Melder was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Alexandria let Amiyah Wilson and Sarah Grace Buckels run wild. Wilson got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Buckels went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Mary Claire Brinkman was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Alexandria lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Iota put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over Teurlings Catholic. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by ten runs or more this season.
Haydyn Schexnayder was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Addison Cormier was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chloe Bordelon, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Iota's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Alexandria, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
