Kellam is 2-8 against Salem since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Kellam Knights will head out on the road to take on the Salem Sundevils at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Tuesday, Kellam humbled Tallwood with a 66-12 victory. Given Kellam's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Tallwood is ranked 376th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kellam's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mia Spain led the charge by scoring 16 points along with two steals. Spain is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Spain, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Salem waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They blew past First Colonial, posting a 59-23 win at home. 59 seems to be a good number for Salem as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Kellam has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Salem, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Kellam skirted past Salem 50-47 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kellam since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
