Basketball Recap: Eagle Valley Gets the Win

Eagle Valley picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They came out on top against the Mountain Range Mustangs by a score of 65-57. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Devils.

Eagle Valley had a senior duo take command as Brian Fontana went 6 of 10 en route to 16 points and three steals and Dylan Zoller dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fontana has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Newbanks, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 13 points and six rebounds.

Eagle Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why Mountain Range lost, don't look at Moses West. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, West is now averaging an impressive 8.3 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Brunton, who posted 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Eagle Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for Mountain Range, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eagle Valley will be taking part in a tournament against Fruita Monument at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fruita Monument is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season. Mountain Range and Fairview will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairview also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 60.5 points per game.
