Westview had won six straight games and Tayvin Zephier-Murphy did his part to make it seven on Saturday. The Westview Wolverines walked away with an 84-71 victory over the Elkhorn South Storm thanks in part to Zephier-Murphy, who went 14 of 19 on his way to 40 points. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points.

The team also got some help courtesy of John Sims IV, who posted seven points. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played.

Despite the loss, Elkhorn South still got an impressive performance from Cooper Mroczek, who shot 5-for-9 from deep and dropped a double-double on 32 points and 13 boards. That was a full 45.1% of Elkhorn South's points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Lincoln Schwarz was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Westview's win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Elkhorn South, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westview will welcome Lincoln North Star at 3:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Westview knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Lincoln North Star likes a good challenge. As for Elkhorn South, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bryan at 7:15 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
