The Chincoteague Ponies are taking a road trip to challenge the Middlesex Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Chincoteague has given up an average of 12.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Broadwater Academy hit Chincoteague with a six-run third inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Ponies came up short against the Vikings, falling 13-0. The Ponies have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Middlesex had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past the Panthers 23-8. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Courtney Jessie made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Middlesex got a massive performance out of Kyla Blazek, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave Blazek a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aniyah Billups, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases.
Middlesex always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .810. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .667 or higher in three consecutive games.
Middlesex's record now sits at 5-7. As for Chincoteague, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
Chincoteague might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Middlesex when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Ponies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
