The South Brunswick Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the West Brunswick Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Brunswick is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
On Wednesday, South Brunswick ended up a good deal behind Topsail and lost 52-33. While losing is never fun, South Brunswick can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 350th, while Topsail is ranked 161st).
Despite the defeat, South Brunswick had strong showings from Matea Moye, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds, and Meryn Deutsch, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Moye pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Meanwhile, West Brunswick was able to grind out a solid victory over North Brunswick on Tuesday, taking the game 42-30. The victory made it back-to-back wins for West Brunswick.
South Brunswick has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for West Brunswick, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
South Brunswick was dealt a bruising 57-19 defeat at the hands of West Brunswick when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Thankfully for South Brunswick, Emma Pruitt (who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
