Merced has gone 8-2 against El Capitan recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Bears will head out to take on the Gauchos at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Merced has nine straight wins, El Capitan has 26 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Merced's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Buhach Colony.
Buhach Colony's batters probably weren't too happy with Annalise Ramirez, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 12 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Ramirez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Antonia Lejarde was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
Merced hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buhach Colony struck out 12 times.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for El Capitan's offense. They came up short against Los Banos on Thursday, falling 13-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Gauchos' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Merced pushed their record up to 13-2-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for El Capitan, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.
El Capitan's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Merced has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for El Capitan, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will Merced keep running through batters, or will the Gauchos buck the trend?
Merced took their win against El Capitan in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
