Buckeye extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-15 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the North Canyon Rattlers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rattlers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-8 on Tuesday.

Mayco Morales put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Buckeye: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-14 otherwise.
In other batting news, David Castaneda was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs. Adrian Fierro was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
As for North Canyon, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.
Like Buckeye, North Canyon also got a great game from a two-way player: Jose Chavez. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Chavez has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Johnny Huerta, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Hunter Dye, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Buckeye wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 17-6 defeat against Canyon View on the 22nd. As for North Canyon, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-6 loss against Youngker on the 22nd.
