Softball Game Preview: Oasis Academy Bighorns vs. Yerington Lions

For the second straight game, Oasis Academy will face off against Yerington. The Bighorns will venture away from home to challenge the Lions at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Oasis Academy will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Oasis Academy took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Yerington, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bighorns sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Lions on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bighorns have posted since April 27, 2024.

Kirsten Detomasi spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on 12 hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grace Laca was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shayana McNamer, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Laca wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Oasis Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The Bighorns are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Oasis Academy pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Yerington, they moved to 10-4 with that defeat, which also ended their nine-game winning streak.

Both Oasis Academy and Yerington just can't seem to miss. The Bighorns have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Yerington struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4 hits.
