The Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Legion Collegiate Academy by a score of 46-39. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but Gray Collegiate Academy was the better team in the second half.
Gray Collegiate Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kadence Walker-lee, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Walker-lee hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Karlee Phelps, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Legion Collegiate Academy saw an underclassman step up: Amelia Williams scored 24 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Jaylen McMurray was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Gray Collegiate Academy pushed their record up to 8-6 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Legion Collegiate Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gray Collegiate Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Fairfield Central at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Legion Collegiate Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Porter Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Porter Ridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully Legion Collegiate Academy likes a good challenge.
