The Willis Wildkats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 53-22 loss at the hands of Montgomery. Willis has not had much luck with Montgomery recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the loss, Willis saw an underclassman step up: Sofia Dominguez scored nine points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Montgomery to victory, but perhaps none more so than Savannah Piro, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Piro has scored at least 25% of Montgomery's points. Kayla Zimny was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Willis' loss dropped their record down to 3-18. As for Montgomery, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which somehow isn't as good as their 17-5 record this season.
Willis and The Woodlands will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The Woodlands presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Willis in Texas (The Woodlands is ranked 386th, while Willis is ranked 1229th). Montgomery is on the road again on Friday and play against MacArthur at 3:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023.
