Even though the Yucaipa Thunderbirds scored an imposing 56 points on Friday, the Redlands East Valley Wildcats still came out on top. Redlands East Valley greeted the New Year with with a 75-56 win over Yucaipa. The win was familiar territory for Redlands East Valley who now have three in a row.
Jeremiah Ivens was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with nine steals and eight rebounds. The matchup was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Darrell Green, who scored 21 points along with five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Yucaipa lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malik Young. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points. Young scored a full 39.3% of Yucaipa's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Tristan Doty was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Redlands East Valley has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Yucaipa, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11.
Redlands East Valley will be playing at home against Beaumont at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Beaumont is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road. Yucaipa won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Santiago at 5:00 p.m. on January 6th.
