During lunch, Staff Sergeant Kimo Anderson of the Indiana Army National Guard generated plenty of interest among the Carmel student body by displaying the Army National Guard national ranking trophy in the cafeteria, alongside plenty of Army National Guard pamphlets and brochures.
That evening, with the Carmel boys junior varsity basketball game against Cathedral in full tilt, the Indiana Army National guard began handing out TOC commemorative T-shirts. Then, as the buzzer sounded at the conclusion of the game, SSG Anderson escorted the Greyhound volleyball team out onto the gymnasium floor. The Carmel public address announcer instructed fans in attendance to direct their attention to center court.
As SSG Anderson stepped onto the court with the Greyhounds, the crowd began yelling and screaming in approval. The cheers ultimately led to a standing ovation, as everyone in the gymnasium acknowledged SSG Anderson and the Greyhounds. SSG Anderson then presented head coach Frank Dixon and his Carmel volleyball team with the prestigious Army National Guard national ranking trophy.
Dixon, who just completed his 28th season with the Greyhounds, thanked the Indiana Army National Guard and MaxPreps for the award, attributing last fall's success to his team, especially the seniors. "As with most successful interscholastic teams, senior leadership was the most important part of accomplishing our goals this year. We could not of had a better group of girls. This is a real thrill," Dixon said. "It is a great honor to be selected as one of the best teams in the country. As a US Army veteran, who served in Vietnam alongside Army National Guard troops, I am very appreciative of their support of this award."
The Army National Guard and MaxPreps congratulate Coach Frank Dixon and the Carmel Greyhounds on a great season, a state championship and a national ranking!
