I Section III recap October 8, 2013
Skyline lost to Mountain View 42-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Red Mountain led I Section III in scoring this week by notching 49 points on Desert Mountain. Caleb Murray-Thomas threw for 349 yards and 2 touchdowns, ran for 85 yards and caught 1 pass for 14 yards in the win.
John Clark threw for 293 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 20-33 with 1 interception.
Murray-Thomas was a passing and rushing force as the Mountain Lions topped the Wolves. Murray-Thomas' favorite target this week was Diego Hernandez, who caught 5 passes for 138 yards.
Nathaniel Rodriguez was a key player and the best on defense this week as Desert Ridge bested Mesa. He recorded 1 fumble.
Taren Morrison was a beast in the backfield as the Jaguars beat the Jackrabbits.
Morrison was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 376 yards on 11 carries as Desert Ridge bested Desert Mountain. Teammate Rodriguez added to the ground attack by rushing for 52 yards.
The Toros' Clark and Clark Brown have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Clark has thrown for 1,675 yards this season, while Brown has 35 catches for 706 yards. Jeremy Hathcock's team's Morrison leads the league in rushing yards with 1,125.
The Jaguars are in third place, while the Coyotes are in first place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Desert Ridge takes on Skyline. The Jaguars have allowed 65 points this season, while Angelo Pauffumi's team has given up 84. Desert Ridge allowed 17 points last week as it topped Mesa.
Ron Wisneiwski's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,175 from 1,428. The improvement was largely due to a 49-30 victory over Tony Tabor's team last week.
