Natalia and Hondo are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will challenge the Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Natalia has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Hondo will arrive with three straight wins.
On Friday, Natalia didn't have quite enough to beat Dilley and fell 12-11.
Ralynn Juarez and Leyla Saenz stepped up to the plate in a big way. Juarez went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Saenz went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Moreno, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hondo won against Crystal City on Tuesday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Owls were the clear victors by a 14-7 margin over Lytle. Considering the Owls have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ainsley Bohlen was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Kristyn Ybarra, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Hondo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.
Hondo's record is now 14-6. As for Natalia, their loss dropped their record down to 9-13.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Natalia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. However, it's not like Hondo struggles in that department as they've averaged .472. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Natalia couldn't quite get it done against Hondo when the teams last played on March 10th as they fell 8-3. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
