Isle of Wight Academy is a perfect 4-0 against Brunswick Academy since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Chargers will venture away from home to square off against the Vikings at 3:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Isle of Wight Academy is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Peninsula Catholic on Wednesday. The Chargers came out on top against the Knights by a score of 4-1. That three run margin sets a new team best for the Chargers this season.
Isle of Wight Academy's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cody Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Thomas has posted since back in April of 2024. Jason Chapman also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Brunswick Academy had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past the Falcons 10-1. With that win, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Jake McAden was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Brunswick Academy is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. McAden was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Ross Reese was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Bryce Abernathy was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Brunswick Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Isle of Wight Academy, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Isle of Wight Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Brunswick Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Isle of Wight Academy took their victory against Brunswick Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 12-4 score. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
