With just three days until national signing day, Lowndes High School defensive back Greg Reid is getting a lot of attention. The all-purpose player earned Atlanta Journal-Constitution state player of the year honors and has been in the public eye for a while, but when he rescinded his verbal commitment to Florida that attention drastically increased.
Reid not only pulled his commitment but after an official visit to Florida including a discussion with a less-than-pleased head coach Urban Meyer, he decided Florida is not the place for him. Since then, Alabama, Florida State and Georgia have become the leading candidates for his services.
Reid has been especially drawn to the Seminoles, consistently using the phrase "feels like home" when referring to the school. This weekend he took his last official visit to Georgia.
Earlier in the week, he hinted that the visit could be quite significant in his decision-making process. In an interview with the AJC the modest Georgian said, "I never knew this many people would want a 5-8 cornerback."
Reid gave the reasons for pulling out of his Florida commitment, saying they were his favorite team growing up so he committed as soon as he had the chance. Then after looking at the depth chart he decided that they were loaded at the cornerback position and it might be best to look elsewhere.
Reid's story is intriguing as he took accountability for his team's poor sportsmanship after their playoff loss this year and also talked about how much he loves his dad, who because of a current five-year stint in prison has never seen his son play a high school football game.
The cornerback said he would make a decide between Georgia, Florida State and Alabama on Wednesday.
In addition to Reid, here are some of the Peach State’s other top prospects and where they stand headed into Wednesday’s college football holiday;
Jonathan Davis, RB/LB, Tucker: Committed to Central Florida
Stephen Hill, WR, Miller Grove: Hill has started somewhat of a tussle between Georgia Tech and Georgia. Though Hill has already verbally committed to Tech, the Bulldogs are making a late push to land his services.
Jarvis Jones, LB, Columbus Carver: Jones is considered the top inside linebacker in the country by CBS College Sports recruiting analyst Tom Lemming. Jones is weighing offers from Florida, Georgia, LSU, USC and Texas.
Darren Myles, DB, Atlanta Carver: Weighing offers from LSU, Alabama, Purdue (his father's alma mater), Kentucky and Tennessee.
