Basketball Game Preview: North Phoenix Preparatory Academy Gladiators vs. Mayer Wildcats

The North Phoenix Preparatory Academy Gladiators will venture away from home to challenge the Mayer Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Phoenix Preparatory Academy is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.

On Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, North Phoenix Preparatory Academy beat Tempe Prep 30-24.

Sabrina Daniel was the offensive standout of the contest as she posted four points along with seven boards and four steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Brecken Cain was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.

North Phoenix Preparatory Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Mayer played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Joseph City 83-9. Mayer was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-5.

North Phoenix Preparatory Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 18.0 points per game. As for Mayer, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

North Phoenix Preparatory Academy might still be hurting after the 49-29 loss they got from Mayer when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Thankfully for North Phoenix Preparatory Academy, Danni McCann (who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 20 steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
