Baseball Recap: Taos Comes Up Short

After flying high against Page last Friday, Taos came back down to earth. Taos came up short against the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers on Saturday, falling 14-4. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Jeremiah Gonzales was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.

Even though they lost, Taos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .529 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Taos' defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Montezuma-Cortez, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Taos Tigers face off against Robertson Cardinals at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Robertson has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.18 runs per game on average), something Taos will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they will challenge Smoky Hill at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
