The Corning Cardinals will challenge the Gridley Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Corning has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Corning lost 14-7 to Colusa on Wednesday. The Cardinals have struggled against the RedHawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Meanwhile, while Gridley put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Pierce. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 19-0 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
Kaydenze Pruitt made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Delanie Cloyd, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Avery Mendenhall was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Gridley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive contests.
With the victory, Gridley broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-4. As for Corning, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.
