Bishop McLaughlin Catholic has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Bishop McLaughlin Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Friday.
Last Friday, Bishop McLaughlin Catholic came up short against the Panthers and fell 38-26.
Despite their loss, Bishop McLaughlin Catholic saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Keegan Castelli, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three blocks, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Castelli has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliana Arana, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.
Meanwhile, Berkeley Prep scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They breezed by Academy at the Lakes at home to the tune of 57-26.
Lila grace Strain and Maddie Dean were among the main playmakers for Berkeley Prep as the former scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Priyanka Makati, who scored four points along with three steals.
Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Berkeley Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-11 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Bishop McLaughlin Catholic have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Berkeley Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's way against the Buccaneers when the teams last played back in December of 2020 as the Hurricanes made off with a 57-35 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
