The Isabella Mustangs will face off against the Horseshoe Bend Generals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Horseshoe Bend will be up against a hot Isabella team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Isabella came out on top against Billingsley by a score of 10-7 on Thursday.
Emma Baker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on two hits.
On the hitting side, Isabella got a massive performance out of Natalie Smithermen, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Jeslyn Wilson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Isabella was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Horseshoe Bend never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 12-0 margin over Central of Coosa County. The game marked the Generals' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Madison Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only three hits, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Lily Moss was a standout: she scored a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Marigrace Jones, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Horseshoe Bend pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Isabella, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
Both Isabella and Horseshoe Bend just can't seem to miss. Isabella has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Horseshoe Bend struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Isabella might still be hurting after the 15-3 defeat they got from Horseshoe Bend in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Will Isabella have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
