Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Calvin Engelsma and Andrew Regnerus Lead Heritage Christian to Victory

Heritage Christian hadn't done well against DeMotte Christian recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Heritage Christian Defenders secured a 60-54 W over the DeMotte Christian Knights. This was payback for the Defenders, who suffered a 45-35 loss the last time these two teams met.

Leading Heritage Christian to victory were Andrew Regnerus and Calvin Engelsma. Regnerus went 6 for 11 on his way to 17 points and seven rebounds, while Engelsma posted 12 points and five rebounds. Regnerus is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last six games he's played.

DeMotte Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Titus Terpstra, who had 14 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Terpstra a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tony Bos, who put up 18 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Heritage Christian's record now sits at 5-2. As for DeMotte Christian, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2.

Heritage Christian will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Parkview Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Heritage Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.4 points per game this season. As for DeMotte Christian, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 50-32 victory against North Newton on the 14th.
