The Taft Wildcats will square off against the Chavez Titans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Taft is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Taft saw some tournament action on Saturday. They fell just short of Bakersfield Christian by a score of 5-4.
Taft saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Owens, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Kenadie Hale, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chavez). They blew past Orosi 20-5 on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Titans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Chavez got a massive performance out of DIANA MAGANA, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI MAGANA has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of HAILEY RUANTO, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Chavez kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orosi only managed two.
Chavez's win bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Taft, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-4.
Chavez's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Taft has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Chavez, though, as they've been averaging only 1.7 strikeouts. Will Taft keep running through batters, or will the Titans buck the trend?
Taft was able to grind out a solid victory over Chavez when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 9-5. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
