Even though the Ignacio Bobcats have not done well against the Pagosa Springs Pirates recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Ignacio pulled ahead with a 34-33 photo finish over the Pirates. The victory was all the more spectacular given Ignacio's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while the Pirates are ranked 36th).
Despite the loss, Pagosa Springs still got an impressive performance from Annie O?Donnell, who scored 14 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points O?Donnell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Currier, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Pagosa Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. This was only their first loss (out of five games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Ignacio's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8. As for Pagosa Springs, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-4.
Ignacio will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Wolverines at 1:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Hopefully Bayfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 last Saturday. As for Pagosa Springs, they will be playing at home against the Mean Moose at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
