Basketball Recap: Shaylee Barrett Key Part of a Team Effort in Bronchos Win

While Lafayette Jefferson didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They snuck past the Bloomington North Cougars with a 53-48 win on Thursday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lafayette Jefferson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shaylee Barrett, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Barrett a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Cambria Marcus, who posted 12 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Lafayette Jefferson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Bloomington North's loss came despite strong showings from Katharine Lehr and Ava Robbennolt. Lehr dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, while Robbennolt had 14 points. Lehr has been hot, having also posted three or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashley Stegemoller, who put up six points.

Lafayette Jefferson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.9 points per game. As for Bloomington North, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7.

Lafayette Jefferson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 43-31 victory against Lebanon on the 26th. As for Bloomington North, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-43 win against Perry Meridian on the 26th.
