The McDowell Titans had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past North Buncombe with points to spare, taking the game 54-40. That result was just more of the same for these two, as McDowell also won the last time the pair played back in January.
McDowell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sage Young, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Kensly Stewart, who scored 11 points.
Despite the defeat, North Buncombe saw an underclassman step up: Aubrey Gilliland scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Kadence Penley was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
McDowell has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. As for North Buncombe, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Enka the next time they take the court. McDowell will head out to face the Jets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Black Hawks will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
