Softball Recap: Boardman Wins High-Profile Game Against Walsh Jesuit

Boardman faced Walsh Jesuit in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Spartans never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Gabi Sferra, who gave up just three hits to keep Walsh Jesuit off the board. Sferra has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kenzie Cherne was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Mikayla Rivera was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Boardman is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Walsh Jesuit fell to 10-1.

Coming up, Boardman will take on Gilmour Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season. As for Walsh Jesuit, they will challenge Revere at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
