The Chiefland Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a hard 40-21 fall against Trenton. While losing is never fun, Chiefland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 324th, while Trenton is ranked 108th).
Several Indians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nyasia Bivins, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and four blocks. Another player making a difference was Laila Ingram, who scored five points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Trenton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brianna Karanja led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Karanja scored 15 or more points. Koi Perry was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
Chiefland's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-9. As for Trenton, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chiefland will challenge Riverside Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Trenton, they will head out on the road to square off against Branford at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
